A Grand Success! India’s first-ever world arm wrestling ranking tournament

In the last few years, the Indian sporting arena has been booming, with the introduction of many franchise based leagues for sports. What is of particular interest is that most of these games were played in the backyard or as favourite pastimes between friends.

Kabaddi, Badminton and volleyball have now transcended from being so called “ small games” to “professional games”. The inception of the franchise run leagues, live telecasts, involvement of celebrities and most importantly the Indian Sports fan’s frustration with limited sporting content, gave rise to a new era.

India’s first-ever world armwrestling ranking tournament, held at The Chancery Pavilion (Bengaluru, India)

Bulldog Armwrestling decided to give sports lovers another reason to smile, cheer and inspire fans and viewers to get fit by introducing India to professional arm wrestling.

“Panja Ladana” in the north or “Panja gushti “ as its known in god’s own country, arm wrestling is a sport that has been played since ages and is almost a household name in our country . Who would have thought that a game that big boys played for fun to release overdoses of testosterone would now be a sport they could have as their careers!

Professional Armwrestling League (PAL)

  • a league that aims at developing armwrestling as a sport discipline by organising armwrestling events at the national and international level,
  • athlete management,
  • training, coaches and referee trainings,
  • fund raising for disabled and veteran armwrestling communities and implementation and management of URPA .

What is the Unified Rating of Professional Armwrestling (URPA)?

As the name suggests, this is a Unified rating system which determines the overall ranking of the athlete. The registration process is called “certification” because after going through a short video course and becoming familiar with the Rating Rules and the URPA Competition Rules, an athlete agrees to the conditions of the online contract and receives an official Professional Athlete Certificate. A copy of the Certificate with the individual registration number comes to the athlete by email. The athlete has to then undergo a certification program to know about the rating rules. This helps the athlete to understand how the URPA system works.

1st Bulldog Armwrestling – URPA Tournament:

In March 2019, Bulldog Armwrestling along with the PAL, promoted India’s first URPA Armwrestling Tournament, with the participation of 65 professional athletes from 10 Indian States and 3 countries (India, Uzbekistan and UAE)

This tournament called Bulldog – URPA tournament was a 2-day high adrenaline event, which had the presence of athletes, media, corporates, arm wrestling fans and celebrities.

The competition was held under the guidance of doctors and fitness experts of Sakra World Hospital and was covered by our media partners – Sportskeeda.

This was then followed with an underground themed Big Puller Party, where the DJs were spinnin’ and rappers were spittin’ till the wee hours of the night.

Arm wrestling evokes memories, memories of college canteen days, memories of evenings spent with friends and family where we would challenge each other with impromptu matches. Who knew that a game that we played at college with friends, a game played and popularised by the pre – smartphone youth and a game that could make or break friendships, would now be viewed on such a huge platform .

A game between two people a chance for each to show the world their strength , a chance for them to literally clasp the world in their fists , a chance for these hard working men and women to prove their worth – this is what Bulldog Sportz and PAL gave these pullers – a two day carnival and a utopian dream for an arm wrestler !
